305 Women Trained in Spices Production in Imo, Receives Startup Capital

Imo State Government through the Ministry of Entrepreneurship & Skills Acquisition has certified no fewer than 305 women after they received training in spices production.

The women, drawn from across different local governments in the state, were trained as part of the mandate of the ministry to improve livelihoods via skill acquisition and entrepreneurship.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Imo State Secretariat complex, off Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, Imo State.

Commissioner for the ministry, Hon. Noble Atulegwu in his remarks said that the development was in fulfillment of the promises of the governor of the state, Hope Uzodimma, when the beneficiaries were given a startup capital.

Governor Uzodimma had at the inauguration of the training exercise pledged to support the beneficiaries with startup capitals after successful training.

This, he had pointed, was to aid the production of food spices in the state and motivate the beneficiaries to be productive and self-reliant.

Atulegwu restated the governor’s commitment: “The impacts which Governor Uzodimma is making in the lives of Imo people have surely convinced the good people of Imo State that the creation of Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition was a display of visionary leadership by the Governor.”

The intervention, he added, will also be a boost to the Imo State food chain and equally upscale the state’s economy.

Atulegwu further explained that the trainers from the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) exposed different local and foreign food spices to the trainees including ways of producing, preserving and packaging them for marketing.

On her part, the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs & Vulnerable Groups, Mrs. Nkechinyere Ugwu restated the commitment of the governor’s wife to protect the interest and welfare of women.
