The Nasarawa State Government says it has distributed 31 trucks of fertilizers to farmers across 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state in a bid to boost the state’s food security.
The state government also disclosed that 18 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) benefited from the 38 trucks of fertiliser procured by it.
Nasarawa State Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Alanana Otaki, made this known when he appeared before the state’s House of Assembly Commitee on Agriculture in Lafia to defend the ministry’s 2021 budget proposal.
Otaki said that each LGAs and LCDAs had been handed a truck of fertilizer while they await further directives on onward distribution to the farmers.
The Commissioner also noted that the remaining 7 trucks was being stored by the Nasarawa Ministry of Agriculture for further distribution to the farmers.
Otaki, however, stated that the ministry needed more funds to purchase machines, equipment among other farming tools for the overall development of the state.
