NALDA to Acquire Two Million Plastic Bags for Food Storage

The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has placed an order for the production of two million pieces of plastic sacks, mostly for 50kg capacity, for its nationwide food programme.

The Agency placed the order from the recently-resuscitated Borno Plastic Company.

NALDA’s Executive Secretary, Prince Paul Ikonne announced the partnership this week in Maiduguri when he led directors to pay a courtesy call on Governor Zulum.

According to him, the sacks will be used to package food items for its Nationwide food programme, with Borno as a pilot state.

He said, “We have seen what you [Zulum] are doing, we have seen your factories and I want to inform you that in one of your factories, the sack manufacturing factory, NALDA is placing an order for 2 million sacks for packaging purposes in nationwide food program in which Borno has been selected as one of the pilot states.”

He further disclosed that Borno and one other state have been chosen as pilot states where 2,040 young people will be trained on fish farming, processing and packaging.

The training is part of the Federal Government’s National Young Farmers Scheme, he explained.

The National Young Farmers Scheme was launched by the Federal Government in November, last year.

The initiative seeks to engage 1,000 youth in each of the 774 local councils areas of the country, in agriculture.

On his part, Governor Zulum called on NALDA to prioritise the selection of internally displaced persons, for the Young Farmers Scheme.

He appreciated the Authority for the visit, promising that the state government will work hand in hand with NALDA towards the successful execution of all interventions for the benefit of citizens.
