Buhari Approves Establishment of Federal College of Agriculture, Signs Agric Research Council Bill into Law

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (Amendment) Bill 2021, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, has disclosed.

The Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria is expected to play a crucial part in coordinating agricultural research efforts towards achieving food sufficiency and security in the nation.

According to the SSA, Buhari also approved the establishment of two educational institutions; the Federal College of Agriculture, Kirikasamma and the Federal College of Education (Special) Birnin Kudu in Jigawa State.

Shehu in a statement on Friday revealed that the aforementioned were the actions of Mr. President before departing for Addis Ababa in Ethiopia last weekend.

The steps were in furtherance of the economic diversification agenda of the Buhari’s administration where agriculture plays the lead role, SSA added

According to the statement “In consonance with the commitment of his administration to diversify the economy with agriculture playing a critical role, President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (Amendment) Bill 2021.

“With the amendment, the Council is expected to play a crucial part in coordinating research efforts in the agricultural sector towards achieving food sufficiency and security in the nation.

“The President, who assented to the bills before his visit to Ethiopia, also approved the establishment of the Federal College of Agriculture, Kirikasamma and the Federal College of Education (Special) Birnin Kudu”, the statement read in part.
