Innovative Solutions Key to Boosting Food Security – Obaseki

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has harped on the need for innovations in tackling challenges threatening food sufficiency.

Obaseki gave the charge in commemoration of the 2021 World Food Day, themed “Our Actions Are Our Future: Better production, better nutrition, a better environment and better life.”

In his words, “As we commemorate World Food Day, it is necessary to reiterate the need for innovative solutions to the problem of food insecurity, which is a major threat to our health and livelihood.”

He reaffirmed his commitment in sustaining investments in the agricultural sector with the smallholder farmers taking priority while assuring farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain of his administration’s support.

According to the governor, the farmers will be supported in combating hunger, ensuring sustainable production of affordable nutritious foods while enhancing their contribution to a sustainable economy.

“As a government, we will sustain initiatives aimed at providing critical support to large and smallholder farmers in the state, leveraging our land assets to drive development and diversify the economy with a focus on sustaining food security,” Obaseki stated.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Edo State held a food exhibition to mark the World Food Day.
