Drone technology has advanced in recent years, generating detailed images of crops and, has become more affordable for farmers.
Making use of drones in farming has a lot of impacts. Drones can do soil health scans, monitor crop health, assist in planning irrigation schedules, apply fertilizers, estimate yield data and provide valuable data for weather analysis.
With drones, smallholder farmers can make early decisions, and spot issues sooner.
This technology innovation has revolutionised small-scale farming. The African Union has also shown support for the spread of commercial drones for agriculture through the Eyes In The Sky, Smart Techs on the Ground project, led by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA).
