Unknown Gunmen Allegedly Kidnap 10 Herdsmen, 300 Cows, Demand N4m Ransom in Anambra

Unknown gunmen have allegedly abducted 10 members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) along with their 300 cows in Anambra State.

AgroNigeria gathered that the incident happened on Saturday morning, while the abductors have requested N4 million as ransom from the victims family.

The incident was confirmed by the South East Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, affirming that the kidnappers have established contact with the families of the victims and were demanding a N4 million ransom and a gun.

Siddiki said the incident happened at about 1.30 am on Saturday at Obene Community in the Ogbaru Local Government Area settlement, alleging that the herders were attacked while asleep, while their herds were forcefully taken away by the gunmen numbering about 40.

He condemned the politicisation of the conflict between herdsmen and host communities across the country and appealed to the kidnappers to release his members and cows, stressing that the abductees were struggling herders.

He noted that the herdsmen were always accused of a crime, even in situations where they were the victims of attacks, blaming the face-off between herdsmen, farmers and host communities on lack of accurate communication by the concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, the Anambra police spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident and pleaded with the leadership of Miyetti Allah in the state to come up with more information that would enable the Police to commence an aggressive investigation into the matter.

He said, “Yes, we are aware of the incident, but we want the Miyetti Allah leadership to supply us with more information since the Kidnappers have established ransom contact with the victims families.”

Also, Toochukwu appealed to the MACBAN leadership and its members not to react or take laws into their hands, assuring that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Echeng Echeng, and other security agencies were doing everything possible to rescue the victims from their abductors.
